If you're thinking of renovating your kitchen, you're probably wondering what cabinet colors are trending, and if it's worth it to go with a trendy color! Refinishing your cabinets can put you in the sweet spot of updating your kitchen, but not losing your shirt financially (See the article here on ROI for home renovations). (See the article here for step-by-step instructions on refinishing cabinets) Choosing a color for the refinish can be a challenge! Choosing the right color for your kitchen cabinets can dramatically transform the entire space, making it look modern, vibrant, and inviting. Choosing the wrong color can negatively affect your home's value and appeal to buyers when you're ready to sell your home. In 2023-2024, kitchen cabinet colors are taking a bold turn, departing from traditional neutrals and embracing a variety of trendy hues. Here are some of the most stylish and trendy colors to consider when painting your cabinets this year. Keep in mind, however, that the farther you go away from neutral, the smaller the pool of people who will also think it's a really great choice. In other words, if you stray too far from neutral, you'll likely need to repaint them again before selling someday, or plan on making concessions at contract time! Trends are so, well...trendy! :)

1. Rich Navy Blue: Deep navy blue cabinets are making waves in kitchen design. This elegant and versatile color adds a touch of sophistication and depth to your kitchen. Pair it with gold or brass hardware for a luxurious look and combine it with white countertops for a timeless contrast. My absolute favorite metal to use is (drum roll, please...) COPPER! Stand out from every other home and get some beautiful copper finishes working for you.
I LOVE these simple copper drawer and cabinet pulls. They are timeless and will work with just about every design style. If you currently have knobs on certain cabinets or drawers, but would still like the look of the simple long line, check out...
These amazing long-line knobs!! :) The only caveat I'll offer with these is that they can get off-center easily if they are at all loose in the hole. So, you may need to add a little bit of glue to hold them in place.
Try gorilla glue if you have that issue.
2. Sage Green: Sage green cabinets bring a sense of tranquility and freshness to your kitchen. This muted green tone works well with both traditional and contemporary designs. It pairs beautifully with natural wood accents, creating a harmonious and calming atmosphere.
3. Matte Black: Matte black cabinets exude modern elegance and make a powerful statement. This bold choice adds a touch of drama to your kitchen while providing a sleek and luxurious feel. To prevent the space from feeling too dark, balance black cabinets with ample lighting and light-colored countertops. Or, do just your lower cabinets in black, and leave the uppers white. Do plan on cleaning more with this color choice, however. Black highlights smudges and dirt a lot more quickly - so make this choice mindfully!
4. Warm Terracotta: Terracotta, a warm and earthy orange-brown hue, is making a comeback in kitchen design. Terracotta cabinets infuse your kitchen with a cozy and inviting atmosphere. Pair them with neutral tones like beige or soft gray for a harmonious balance.
5. Soft Blush Pink: Soft blush pink cabinets bring a sense of femininity and sophistication to your kitchen. This subtle and delicate color adds a touch of romance without overwhelming the space. Pair blush pink cabinets with white marble countertops and gold accents for a chic and trendy look.
6. Charcoal Gray: Charcoal gray cabinets offer a contemporary and versatile option for modern kitchens. This deep, muted color creates a sense of depth and complements a variety of design styles. Combine charcoal gray cabinets with light-colored walls and bold accents for a balanced and stylish look. You can also pair a charcoal gray lower cabinet with a white upper cabinet for a modern, but not "I'll be dated in 2 years" look. Pair this combination with a beautiful white quartz countertop with gray veining and light gray walls.
7. Moody Forest Green: Moody forest green cabinets evoke a sense of opulence and mystery. This deep and dramatic color choice adds an element of sophistication to your kitchen. Pair it with gold or brass hardware, or for an even more stunning look - go with copper! Imagine how beautiful a green and copper kitchen would be!
8. Soft Mint: Soft mint cabinets bring a refreshing and playful vibe to your kitchen. This subtle pastel hue is perfect for creating a light and airy atmosphere. Mint cabinets work well with white or light gray countertops, adding a pop of color without overwhelming the space.
If you love this color, but don't feel like making a full commitment to the 1950s retro vibe, go with a more neutral choice (like white or gray, or some combination of both) and add in this color with appliances like these colorful countertop appliances

When choosing a trendy color for your kitchen cabinets, consider the overall aesthetic of your kitchen, the amount of natural light, your personal style preferences, and be sure to think long-term. Experimenting with these trendy hues can breathe new life into your kitchen, but make your choices wisely, and consider if it's something you'll like in 5-10 years, or if a potential buyer will like it. Try experimenting with some colorful appliances, update your knobs and pulls, and see if that scratches your color itch before you make the full-out commitment, but most importantly, have some fun!
